Whether it is for a job appraisal, internal promotion or a position in a new company, the interview is likely to be a deciding factor. At its simplest, the dynamics of an interview are easy to understand. The candidate wants a job, desires a promotion or hopes to shine in an appraisal. The interviewer has to figure out whether to give an offer to a candidate. Research suggests that the interview is over in the first four minutes. It is critical that interviewee gives a good first impression.
Objectives
At the conclusion of the seminar, participants should be able to:
- Describe how to prepare for an interview
- Evaluate what is required in an appraisal interview
- Outline the process most interviews follow and understand what the interviewer is looking for
- "Know before you go": identify what every candidate should ask at an interview
- Understand the purpose and the different formats of CV presentation
- Identify information needs of potential employers
- Outline what every CV should have

- Interviewing is a two-way process: understanding corporate cultures and management styles
- Preparing for your interview and being prepared for common interview questions and approaches

- Two special cases: appraisal interviews and the "informational interview"
- What could I be doing wrong?: when interviews don't produce results
